Starting Nursery

Before your child starts nursery, you will need to fill in a Registration Form which you can collect from the nursery.

We encourage the parent/carer to attend a ‘settling-in’ session with their child. This session is an opportunity to meet the staff. The Manager and Deputy Manager will ask you some questions about your child to help them settle in. It is also an ideal opportunity for you to ask questions and address any concerns that you may have. This session will last approximately one hour or longer if required.

We encourage learning through play and allow the children to be as independent as possible. Our staff are always observing and are always on hand to help when needed. These observations are recorded in your child’s ‘Learning Journey.’ This will be passed on to you when your child starts school. If you would like to see your child’s Learning Journey at any time, please let the Manager know.

Each child is allocated a ‘Key Person.’ This member of staff will update you on your child’s progress and will play a key role in your child’s time at Manor Twiglets.

What to wear

Your child should wear clothing that is comfortable and suitable for a wide range of activities.

Manor Twiglets have a uniform (a price list is available on request). Although not compulsory, it is highly recommended as there is a lot of messy play.

As your child will be investigating a wide range of messy material it is inevitable, despite the use of aprons, that clothing will become stained. We therefore strongly suggest that you put your child in clothes that are easily washed.

In order for your child to dress and go to the toilet independently please avoid belts, braces and other difficult fastenings. Ideal items of clothing are jogging bottoms and t-shirts.

At least one change of clothes is recommended to be left on your child’s peg, along with nappies and wipes if needed. A pair of wellies and a sun hat should also be left as we encourage outside play all year round. During the summer months, please apply sun cream to your child before they attend Nursery. We will apply more throughout the day (with your permission) if they are attending all day.

Please ensure that all items of clothing are clearly named.
